The Perfect Skincare Routine for Dry Skin
Those of us with dry skin know it can be more than just a vanity issue, it can be itchy, tight and sore. Dry skin also increases the visibility of fine lines and creates a difficult base for make-up.
Finding the perfect skincare routine for dry skin can feel like a chore, but we’ve compiled our best tips for you below.
Causes of dry skin
According to The Mayo Clinic, dry skin is due to water loss from the outer layer of skin.
This can happen for many reasons such as:
Exposure to environments which are too hot or too cold
Harsh soaps which strip moisture from your skin
Loss of natural oils due to ageing
Bathing too often
Medical conditions such as Eczema
Medications and medical treatments

Although dry skin is normally a harmless condition, it does leave you with tight feeling skin that looks and feels rough.
When not cared for, dry skin can sometimes lead to Atopic dermatitis (eczema) or infections.

Morning
Cleanse - Serum - Moisturiser with SPF
To start your morning off right, you want to begin by cleansing. For dry skin it is best to opt for a gentle non foaming cleanser that doesn’t contain harsh ingredients that will irritate your skin.
Next, you want to apply a serum. Hylaronic Acid is preferable, but don’t let the name acid scare you, it is already naturally occurring in your skin. Hylaronic Acid is known for absorbing 1000x its weight in water, it is highly regarded as a magnet for moisture.
Before applying any make-up you want to finish your morning skincare routine with a moisturiser with SPF. Wearing SPF daily is important as harmful UV rays from the sun can cause sunburn, wrinkles and in some severe cases skin cancer. Even if your make-up has SPF in it, this usually isn’t sufficient so we always recommend building SPF into your skincare routine.
Evening
Remove Make-Up - Cleanse - Serum - Moisturiser
It may seem silly to remove make-up before you cleanse, but long lasting make-up and SPF can be stubborn, preventing your gentle cleanser from doing it’s job. Ideally, you want to skip the make-up removing wipes (save these for festival camp sites) and use micellar water or an oil-based make-up remover.
You’ll then want to follow this with the same gentle non-foaming cleanser from the morning.
For your evening serum, you can reapply your serum from this morning if you are building your skincare routine on a smaller budget. If you can afford to invest in a second serum, we would recommend something with Vitamin E. Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant and a great natural moisturiser, but it can be thicker and harder to apply which is why we think it is best applied in the evening.
The final step for your evening will be a moisturising night cream. You’ll want to pick something rich and deeply hydrating.
